Privacy
In short: This site sets no cookies, needs no sign-up, shows no ads and loads nothing from Google or other third-party services. We count visits with our own, data-minimising statistics that store no IP addresses. Whatever you copy on the site stays in your browser. The German Datenschutzerklärung is the authoritative version.

1. Visiting the site
To deliver the page, your browser necessarily sends our server your IP address, the requested address and your browser’s identifier. The server uses these only to deliver the page. It keeps no access logs with IP addresses.
The server is hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, in a data centre in Germany. Hetzner acts as our processor. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
2. Visit statistics (Umami)
To see which parts of the site are read, we use Umami. It runs on our own server (analytics.das-cogito.de); no data goes to third parties. Umami sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device.
Stored are:
- which page you open, its title and which page you came from,
- browser, operating system, device type, screen size and language setting,
- country and region, derived from the IP address; the IP address itself is not stored,
- page loading times,
- single clicks on the home page: which area you open, whether you view the answer without or with the Cogito, whether you copy a text and which version, and whether you switch language.
So that Umami can group several page views into one visit, it derives an encrypted identifier from IP address and browser identifier. The IP address cannot be recovered from it. We cannot recognise anyone with it and do not try to. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in making the site easier to understand (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The statistics are deleted automatically after 24 months.
Not counted are visits from browsers that send “Do Not Track”. You can also switch counting off for this browser here:
For this the page stores a note “umami.disabled” in your browser, at your request. It applies only to this address (the-cogito.com or das-cogito.de) and only in this browser.
3. Fonts and images
Fonts and images are served from our own server. No connection is made to Google Fonts or other providers.
4. If you write to us
If you send an email, we use your address and message to reply (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR). Our mailbox is run by Google (Google Workspace, Google Ireland Limited) as our processor; processing in the USA is possible. We delete the message once it is dealt with and no statutory retention duty applies.
5. Links to other sites
The guides link to claude.ai, chatgpt.com and gemini.google.com. Only when you click such a link do you leave this site; the provider’s privacy rules then apply. Whatever you type there, including the Cogito text, does not reach us.
6. Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on our legitimate interest (Art. 21). An email to the address above is enough.
You can also complain to a data protection authority, for example the one responsible for us: the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of Baden-Württemberg (baden-wuerttemberg.datenschutz.de).
There are no automated decisions and no profiling.
